Melanie the Witch: Part 3

Once the swirl of the mist landed from the chaos that just ensued there was clearly a layer of soot that needed to be cleaned up. There were piles of soot all over the floor in front of the stone fireplace. She looked next to the mantle where she kept her broom, but it had moved itself. She knew it feared being burned up by all the embers in the fireplace while the silver box burned. It clearly was no where to be found. She knew not to even go hunting for the broom. Its fear was to great, so she tried to summon it to her. She could feel it pulling and its hesitation in coming to her side. She quieted her mind, told the broom in her mind that all was calm, this time her pull was stronger and it came to her hand.
The broom seemed to be trembling in her hands, she held it gently, soothing it in her mind. The broom almost seemed to lean into her saying all was going to be okay now. Quietly and calmly she began to sweet the soot into the fireplace, but the broom’s bristles seemed to leave little trails of the chaos that happened only earlier that day on the floor. Little reminders of the evil that lurked hours before. She went and got her mop to get the trails up. She did not want any reminders of the hell that took place. She wanted her life back to normal as soon as possible and no remnants of the horror to remain.
She placed the broom back next to the mantle where it normally is, but somehow the broom looked miserable. It seemed to be tilting away from the mantle in protest of the evil that enveloped the room earlier. Griffin was purring and rubbing on the brooms bristles as to say it will all be okay. She noticed the broom and told him “ Wait until dark and we will take a spin”. The bristles on the broom straightened up and the broom stood tall again in its spot. He liked when he was allowed to zoom through the skies and give his owner pleasure.
Once nightfall fell the broom started wiggling in anticipation of the ride he was about to take into the dark skies. He was going to zoom and zig zag and take her high into the light of the moon. He was going to help her put the evil attack behind her and help he move back into happiness again. If only for a little while.
She lived in constant fear of being exposed and crucified for who and what she is. She was always in fear of the evil that could happen if someone witnessed her riding the broom, but after all the negative, evil, and chaotic day they all just had, she knew everything she was afraid of had already happened. She grabbed her broom and went to the doorway and stood looking at the sky. She climbed onto the broom, Griffin jumped on the front of the broom, and all three of them took to the sky to ride free once more.
Once up in the air the broom, Griffin, and herself were all at ease. This is their element. The sky, the night, the silence. No one talked, no one made any noises. The only thing they collectively heard is the wind whizzing past them. The broom delivered on a ride so breathtaking that they all forgot the disastrous day. They zoomed high into the moonlight, down low across the lake where they could see their reflection, up the sides of pastures where they road along the fence lines, and back across the moon to finish. There was no fear anymore, only happiness and relaxation.
Now back on the ground, Griffin hopped down and ran inside, she jumped off the broom and thanked him for such a glorious ride. He let her sweep the porch with him before they went in for the night. The broom placed itself next to the mantle and tilted a little bit as if it was relaxing for sleep. Griffin was curled up in his cat bed by the fire. She was exhausted but decided she would climb into her favorite chair by Griffin and just stare into the fire. Evil was going to be coming after her again, another attack was imminent. She tried to stay positive as she drifted off to sleep, but a low cackling was ringing in her ears. Whoever it was she heard would be coming for her next. She flitted off to sleep dreading what tomorrow may bring.

Loving sharing this series with you all as we get closer and closer to Halloween!!
