Melanie's Witch Series: Part 15 History

Melanie’s discovers Her Family’s History
Melanie got a clear picture of the evil she was not up against after talking to her mother on the phone. She was an ocean away, but she conveyed a stern message about taking this threat very seriously. She was told by her mother how she and her grandmother almost both lost their lives while each trying to fight the enchantress. Melanie was just coming into her full power. She was still learning spells. She was a beginning witch and no match for Gerd
The next day Melanie decided to go into town and find a new hair brush. Evil was always around her, but today she needed to look groomed. She needed to feel in control again. She needed a hair brush. She put on her long green cloak, tied back her bright fire red hair, and she went out back and whistled for her white horse. He galloped right up to her and nuzzled her wild red curls, which were already falling back down. She mounted him and they headed into town slowly. When she got into town she rode around awhile till she found the perfect shop for a hair brush. She dismounted her steed, told him to stay put, and walked into the little shop. The shop was made of stone walls and a red door. It looked so inviting. Melanie opened the door and a bell rang. A little man popped up from under the counter. Seeing Melanie he flew around the counter between them and said hello to her up close. She felt warm and welcomed. She said she had forgotten her hair brush when she packed for her trip to Ireland and needed a new one. He could tell she was not telling the truth by the way her eyes darted around the store. He looked at her beautiful red curls and asked if he could touch it. He said he could tell by touching the hair what brush was right for the person. She agreed and he touched her curls gently. Letting each one slip through his fingers until his hand was empty. He said for her to follow him and she did. She was lead to an area with large wooden brushes. One had a large square head with a hand carved wooden handle. The carving was full of Irish swoops and curls. She fell in love with it instantly. She paid the man for it and he gently rolled it up in the prettiest red tissue paper she had ever seen. He put it in a red silk bag and handed her her purchase. She shook his hand and said thank you and was on her way.
Outside her steed stood waiting for her. He neighed happily when she climbed back on and she clicked her tongue and he was on his way home slowly. It was a rare sunny day in Ireland and she and the steed wanted to savor it. It took an extra thirty minutes to reach home, but she and the steed seemed happier after the outing. She climbed down with her purchase and then said thank you to her horse. He nuzzled her with his nose and went walking away.
Inside the house, Melanie froze. She wanted to see if there was a chill in the air before she entered it completely. The house seemed happy, warm, and inviting. She started a fire in the fireplace, locked the doors, grabbed her hair brush and tried to untangle her mess of curls. She worked at the right side; she worked at the left side. She tried and tried and one hour later, her hair was still curled, but all the knots were gone. She had succeeded in taming her mess of fire red curls.
Now that she reclaimed her hair, Melanie grabbed her spell books from her chair and got back to studying. She was not sure what she would be up against, but she knew she had to be ready. She had her family history she was representing in a battle of good against evil. She studied into the early morning hours. At three AM there was a knock on the cottage door. Melanie jumped. She was scared to death of what was outside knocking to come in. She slid around the wall till she could see the door from the living room. She heard another knock and jumped again. Then she heard it; her mother and grandmother’s voices. She ran to the door confused and let them in. She wrapped her arms around her mom and as her grandmother came in, in her hands was baby Lucious. Oh, how she missed her son. She took him into her arms and held him tight. She smelled his sweet smell. She hugged her mom and grandmother. She looked confused. Her mother informed her as soon as they hung up she knew they all needed to be together to battle Gerd.
Melanie invited them into the living room where she was trying to study. Her mother said how about a bed for us all and Melanie nodded in agreement. She led them to the second bedroom and took Lucious to bed with her. Everyone fell into a deep restorative sleep. Melanie knew with her family by her side she could defeat Gerd. She knew it would be hard, but she had the love and support of family and they just happen to be the most powerful witch line in centuries. She hoped Lucious would be safe with them all, but having him there worried Melanie just a little bit, but for tonight she would hold him close and relax with four generations under one thatched cottage roof, tucked in, warm & safe for now.
